Master Class- Art & Literature Nov 8

Study all the following to increase your Knowledge:

Way to Be:  Chapter 5:  Be True and Chapter 8:  Be Still

Screwtape Letters:  Letters XVI to XXIII

Latin Chapters 61-67

Prepared Speech: This week you must prepare a heroes speech! Try and make it on someone who accomplished great things through Christ. Follow the steps from Secrets of the great communicators Pg.43-45. On page 45 there is a list of people J

Complete a word study on "True" (not "Truth") and/or "Still" (do them both; if you could...they are powerful along with the reading!)

Don’t Forget Your Sketch Book…and bring a ruler if you have one

Increase your Understanding by choosing from the following inspirements, OR choose your own inspirement to teach us what you studied. Please come prepared to teach the group:

Look at the examples on page 69-72. Find examples in your own life (or family history) that match these two, either in people that you know or people that you don't. Do a comparison T-chart, and share your findings about what makes them the way they are without mentioning names (unless they are dead and historic).

Ask 5-10 people whom you know, love or respect and ask them where their "rock walls" are. Share in class where others Rock Walls are.

Take pictures of "rock walls" or ideal places of solitude and bring all your findings and pictures to share.

Become a servant of Christ by choosing one of the activities below or creating your own inspirement to serve others.

Reflect in your life to a time when you were not true. Repent and make a plan of action to make sure it never happens again. Write about your experience in your journal or reflection notebook and share it with anyone you feel inspired to.

If the Spirit whispers to you that you have too much electronic/media influence in your life as you read Chapter 8 of "Way to Be!", take an inspired amount of time to do a "black out" with none of the devices Hinckley mentions on page 105 (or extras if you feel so inspired). Take time to reflect at the end of the period how it felt, challenges, etc. and share your feelings in class.

Take time to honestly contemplate why you do what you do in class at Vanguard (how you act, the inspirements you do, what you say, etc.): is it to learn, is it to have "F-U-N!", is it to feel the Spirit and get direction, ...is it to get attention? If changes need to be made, then this is the inspirement for you! Make a plan to change and apply it during your CORE/Journeyman class. Put your feelings down after you have done this in your reflection book then share your experience with a friend, parent, or (even better!) in class :)!

Find your own "rock wall" in your life, a place to be still, and spend at least 10 minutes there every day this week, reading that book that you have never ready because you didn't make time to do
